Icons Of Gains Backing for Game-Changing Automotive Sustainability Platform

We are delighted to announce that Icons Of has been awarded a significant grant for our innovative project to create A Collaboration Platform for Sustainability in the Automotive Industry. This initiative, supported by Vinnova through their Net Zero Industry Programme, is set to transform the way companies in the automotive sector approach sustainability.

Peter Bryntesson, CEO of FKG (Fordonskomponentgruppen), expressed enthusiasm about the project’s potential impact in the FKG newsletter: “This is very good; our members will greatly benefit from this.”

The project tackles a growing challenge: as EU directives like the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) and CSDDD (Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive) take effect, companies face heightened requirements for sustainability reporting. While large corporations are generally equipped to adapt, smaller businesses often struggle with limited resources and expertise.

Icons Of aims to bridge this gap by developing a digital platform designed to enable horizontal collaboration and knowledge sharing among automotive suppliers. This platform will empower smaller companies to meet sustainability demands more effectively and efficiently, without relying solely on external consultants.

Innovating Through Collaboration

In collaboration with industry partners including FKG, HAVD Group, Heléns Rör, Texla Group, Nitator, and sustainability experts Miljögiraff and Greengoat, Icons Of will lead the development of a tool that:

  • Facilitates qualitative information exchange on sustainability policies, goals, and risk management.

  • Enables quantitative data sharing for life cycle analyses and environmental performance metrics.

  • Promotes peer-to-peer learning for shared solutions to common challenges.

By leveraging these collaborative efforts, the platform will not only meet regulatory requirements but also drive resource efficiency and resilience across the automotive supply chain.

Securing this grant is a testament to the importance and potential of this project. With the funding and backing of Vinnova, we are now focused on the first phase of development, which will run from October 2024 to April 2025. This includes designing and prototyping solutions, engaging pilot companies, and establishing the foundation for long-term success.
